Key Facts

With a population of approximately 148,000, Dundee has eight local community planning partnership areas, overseen by four managers, each responsible for delivering universal preventative and health improvement services. Ninewells is the city’s main hospital and there are 21 GP surgeries.

Although the local population endures some of Scotland’s most stark health inequalities (the ScotPHO profile of Dundee in 2016 recorded lower average life expectancy for both sexes), the latest annual report found that in eight out of nine national health and wellbeing indicators regarding health and care experience, Dundee performed better than the Scottish average.

A mental health and wellbeing strategy for 2019-24 was recently published.
