There are 54 GP practices in the fourth largest local authority area in Scotland, which has six localities – Airdrie, Bellshill, Coatbridge, Motherwell, North, and Wishaw – covering over 180 square miles. As of 2016, 22% of people in North Lanarkshire lived in the 15% most deprived areas in Scotland and there is up to 13 years difference in life expectancy between the most deprived and most affluent communities. Across all tenures, 41% of households were in fuel poverty in North Lanarkshire. The IJB is currently developing a Strategic Commissioning Plan.
