Key Facts

Between 1997 and 2017, the 25 to 44 age group in Shetland saw the largest percentage decrease (-18.9%) and the 65 to 74 age group saw the largest percentage increase (+63.8%). Shetland’s population is not predicted to fall over the next few years but the ageing demographic is a key area of focus for the IJB. The average life expectancy for both males and females is higher than the Scottish average.
