Key Facts

As of July 2018, there were 21 GP surgeries serving West Lothian’s two localities which have a combined population of around 180,000. The East and West Locality Profiles indicate both localities have an aging population which is rising faster than the national average. Poor health, deprivation and unemployment are more significant in the West than the East with differences in life expectancy, life chances and health and well-being. There are significant differences within each of the localities: for example there are 8-10 year differences in life expectancy at birth between the most and least deprived communities.

The IJB is to formulate a five-year strategic plan which will be finalised in March 2019. Consultation on the plan closed on the 5th November 2018. Its recently published annual performance report contains a detailed breakdown of the region’s performance against national outcomes compared to the rest of Scotland.
