Health & care leaders: Time to think differently

Thursday 10th October 2019

'Thinking differently and acting swiftly' are at the heart of a new statement of intent from Health and Social Care Scotland.

Under the new strategy published today, Scotland’s health and social care leaders are pledging to work with communities and ‘think beyond traditional approaches’ as they look to radically reshape care.

The statement, published by umbrella group Health and Social Care Scotland, brings together leadership teams responsible for social care and some community health services across the country.

This includes a focus on prevention by developing the ‘foundations’ for good health and wellbeing.

They promise a ‘radical overhaul’ of primary and community care services, with technology being used more to help vulnerable people live safely in their own homes – instead of hospital or a care home.

Also featuring is a commitment to make hospital and emergency services more sustainable by working together at a national and regional level.

They say health and care leaders must ‘think differently and act swiftly’ to support all those involved in care – extending beyond public sector providers to the independent, charitable and voluntary sectors, as well as carers and community groups.
