NHS Tayside has welcomed its largest ever intake of new doctors this week, with 122 new recruits.
The new doctors are set to undertake their two-year foundation programme in a wide range of specialities across the health board.
Following a welcome event in Ninewells Hospital, the new intake of foundation year 1 (FY1) doctors has already taken part in an induction programme, which included a six-day programme of lectures and workshops.
They have also had the opportunity to shadow medical teams, spending three days in the clinical area where they will start work on Wednesday.
Dr Mina Abdel Bari, one of the new FY1 doctors who graduated from the University of Dundee, said she was looking forward to her next steps as a new doctor:
“I am really happy to be at Ninewells as I studied in Dundee and everyone has been very supportive and given me a great welcome.
“I wanted to be a doctor to help people and I am very excited to start my new role.
“I am looking forward to putting what I have learnt into practice. It’s been hard work to get to this point but it’s all been worth it.”
This comes as the Scottish government announced it is inviting doctors to shape NHS workforce reforms through a series of focus groups, as part of its Future Medical Workforce project.
NHS Tayside Executive Medical Director Dr James Cotton said he is “delighted to welcome” the new doctors to the health board’s clinical teams this week:
“We are thrilled to have recruited 122 doctors this year, which is the biggest intake we have ever had in NHS Tayside.
“I want to personally thank them for choosing to be part of Team Tayside and wish them the very best in their future careers.
“They have worked very hard to get here and I have no doubt that they will play a valuable role across our services supporting patients and their families.”
